The Phantoms Weekly Release is here!

Click here for the current Phantoms Weekly Release. We're heading up to Springfield on Friday, and I'm sure they'd like to avenge their 4-1 loss here on the day after Thanksgiving. So we'll have to bring our A Game to that contest.

Then there's Sunday's home game, which has a promo that makes me laugh -- the Scott Hartnell Glove and Mitten Toss. :D Fortunately, he's a good sport about his gauntlet-flinging miscue, and he'll be signing autographs for fans prior to the game.

We've beaten the Pens rather handily in our last couple of meetings, so they're going to be gunning for us, too. Here's to seeing us do as well at home vs. the Pens as we've done in our last two road trips there. THAT would make for a fun night for Phantoms Phans, for sure. :)

Go, Phantoms!

The latest Phantoms Weekly Release is available

Click here for the latest Phantoms Weekly Release.

In particular, I'm so pleased with the attached bits of info that I'm going to quote them here:

NOMINATIONS
The Phantoms nominated LW Claude Giroux for both Reebok Edge/AHL Rookie of the Month and CCM/AHL Player of the Month consideration. Giroux led the Phantoms in scoring in the month of November with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in the team’s 15 games last month. Giroux posted a seven-game point scoring streak from Nov. 8-22, scoring six goals and adding four assists for ten points during that period. He had a two-goal game against Albany on Nov. 19 and four other multi-point nights.

The Phantoms nominated Scott Munroe for Reebok/X-Pulse AHL Goalie of the Month consideration. Munroe went 5-4 in November with a 2.82 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage in nine appearances. The month included two shutouts – a 46-save blanking of Providence on November 9 and a 31-save shutout of Albany on Nov. 19.

For Reebok/AHL Player of the Week consideration, the Phantoms nominated Darroll Powe, who returned from a long stay with the Flyers to record two goals and two assists for four points in his first three games back with the Phantoms. Powe had two goals against Springfield on Friday – a shorthanded marker and an empty-netter – to help the Phantoms to a 4-1 win. He also finished the week with a plus-two rating.

Congratulations to all three very-worthy nominees! :)

Phantoms Weekly Release

The latest Phantoms Weekly Release is available on the team website.

We have a road game tomorrow night in Wilkes-Barre, and the annual Flyers/Phantoms doubleheader on Friday. (Note to Self: charge camera batteries, upload memory stick contents, and clear memory sticks in advance of this.) Our opponent on Friday is Springfield, to which I say, "It's ABOUT TIME we faced someone that isn't in our own division!" Dang. I know we've met up with a few non-divisional opponents during our MANY road trips in October and November, but during our few home games so far, it's been one divisional rival after another. Though, having said that, I liked last year's doubleheader a lot, where the Flyers faced the Capitals in the afternoon, and the Phantoms faced the Capitals' farm team, the Bears, that night. THAT'S a *real* doubleheader. If we hadn't seen the Bears five times already this month, with a sixth game slated for the upcoming weekend, I would be suggesting a repeat of that.

It's actually kind of neat when we manage to have a Flyers/Phantoms homestand where each team plays the corresponding team from the same organization. In prior years, we have had the Islanders in Philly during the same weekend as their farm team, ditto for the Maple Leafs, and of course the Caps' two teams were here on the same DAY last year. When that happens, it's a 100% guarantee that you will see brass from the parent club in the press box at the Spectrum. So if there's a particular former player you admire, and you KNOW he's a coach or scout with Team X, my advice is to take a walk over to the press box if Team X and their farm club are both in Philly together. There's a good chance you'll encounter him there.

Of course, Friday's game is at the Center, not the Spectrum, so you'll need a pair of binoculars to have a look at the press box denizens. But still, it's worth the effort if you think a former favorite player will be In The House for either game.

Phantoms Weekly Release #6

The latest Phantoms Weekly Release is now available: click here for it.

It mentions the arrival of Chase Trull, but says nothing about the release of Freddy Cabana. I think that we won't be seeing news of Cabana reported on the Phantoms site, as he was recalled to the *Flyers* and released by *them*. That gets the Phantoms off the hook for having to report this unfortunate bit of news. We might not even see it reported on the AHL transactions site, as he was recalled to the Flyers, not the Phantoms, prior to being released. The next transaction we see related to Freddy might be the one that tells us when he's signed with a new team.

Phantoms Weekly Release #5

Here is the link to the current Phantoms Weekly Release.

There is still no game recap on the Phantoms site from Sunday's game. This is going to make the Scrapbook Committee's lives interesting, to say the least, as they email us members recaps of every game, edited into a scrapbook-friendly format that we can print out.

Downie and Ross are back; Phantoms Weekly

The first thing I saw on the Phantoms site today was the announcement that Steve Downie and Jared Ross have been reassigned to the Phantoms. Given that Powe and Nodl got hurt during their callup stints, maybe the return of two other called-up guys bodes well for Powe and/or Nodl's being healthy enough to play. I hope so.

Next on the list, we have the Phantoms Weekly Release #4. I can't believe we have to wait until November 14 for the next Phantoms home game! Sigh. Thank goodness for online cybercasts.

Phantoms Weekly Release #2, Steve Downie and Jared Ross are assigned to Phantoms

Click here to read the Phantoms Weekly Release #2.

Steve Downie and Jared Ross were assigned to the Phantoms from the Flyers earlier today. Here is the link to the press release on the Phantoms site.

The Philadelphia Flyers announced Monday that they have reassigned forwards Steve Downie and Jared Ross to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, according to General Manager Paul Holmgren.

Downie, 21, was scoreless in four games for the Flyers this season. He split the 2007-08 season between the Flyers and the Phantoms. He recorded six goals and six assists for 12 points and 73 penalty minutes in 32 regular season games for the Flyers and 17 points (5G,12A) and 114 penalty minutes in 21 games for the Phantoms.

He was originally drafted by the Flyers in the first round (29th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Ross, 26, was scoreless in two games for the Flyers this season. He registered 23 goals and 39 assists for 62 points and 56 penalty minutes in 67 games for the Phantoms last season. His 39 assists and 62 points led the Phantoms.

He was signed as a free agent by the Flyers on April 8, 2008.

Oh, will these additions ever help the Phantoms! Ross was one of our best players last year, not to mention our top point-getter. I really think we are missing what he brings to the table, and we'll be a much-improved team the moment he suits up for us again. Steve Downie didn't play a lot of games for us last year before he was called up, but he racked up a whole lot of points in a short time, plus he provided a physical presence that's guaranteed to drive the opponent's blood pressure way up. For all the rep he's gotten for fighting and hitting, he's also a Grade-A PEST.

I think they will be just what the doctor ordered for this team. I also expect to hear announcements of players being assigned to Biloxi sooner, rather than later, now that we have two high-on-the-depth-chart players being added to the Phantoms roster.

Phantoms Weekly Release #1; Loanouts

Click HERE for the Phantoms Weekly Release #1 for this season.

Also, I was alerted by a fellow fan that the Phantoms have loaned two players to Mississippi. After reading her post, I looked online in the same place where she looked, and saw the same information she saw. However, I won't officially post it here until I see a press release online, which I hope won't take long to appear. Until then, follow the above link if you want to see exactly what I saw.

When I see an official announcement, I'll post a link to that as well. Meanwhile, to our two guys who are headed to Biloxi, best of luck to you both and KICK BUTT while you're there!
